Classic golf practice: An art you can enjoy at Los Naranjos Golf Club

Marbella is certainly one of the most important locations in Costa del Sol. Its location, weather, gastronomy, culture, history and amazing golf clubs are almost as perfect at paradise itself. A great group of tourists from all over the world come to Marbella to enjoy this fantastic place for playing golf. The courses you find here are becoming more and more popular and prestigious in other European countries.

Golf courses have all kind of different conditions, style, design and structure. They can be large, small, plain, steep, depending on the architectural features related to its particular design. It is quite an interesting topic, as well as remarkable, considering that not every golf player knows the different sorts of golf courses there are. In this occasion we would like to highlight the importance of Los Naranjos in consolidating a golf tradition in Marbella.

Los Naranjos was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., one of the most prestigious and popular golf courses architects in history. He developed more than 500 golf projects, 45 in the USA and 35 in other countries, among others.

Each one of the golf courses designed by such a prestigious architect, makes the landscape look perfect, original and creative. Aspects that establish the settings, difficulties and locations of bunkers, which are not excessively deep, with water, lakes and other incredible obstacles becoming the perfect icon of perfection in golf course design. That’s why this club is available for all levels of players, although certain level of strategy is recommended for optimized results when playing at this golf course.

The name of this golf club comes from the 70 hectares plot where it was built, with a rolling and undulating surface and a river crossing an orange field. This golf course was designed with classic details, long and wide fairways and greens, perfect to celebrate international tournaments.

The golf club is located near other two great golf clubs: Aloha and Las Brisas, in an area known as “Golf Valley”. It’s prices in low season are 146€ two green fees, including buggy and in high season one green fee for 105€ plus buggy 18 for 40€. It is a relatively flat route although the first holes and the final one have very interesting uneven slopes.

Tips for enjoying your time at Los Naranjos

In order to play at Los Naranjos you should follow the traditional dress code where shirts and blouses should have a collar, shirts for men should also have sleeves. Shirtless dressing and track suits, t-shirts, beach clothes or jeans are not allowed on the course or in the clubhouse facilities. Bermudas are allowed everywhere and only golf shoes with soft spikes are allowed for practice.

When playing, remember to show respect towards your golf mates in the course and keep a low tone of vice and gestures while in the field. Smartphones should be switched off to not to disturb the other players. We don’t want to see you leave the course for inappropriate behavior.

The average time for the 18 round is 4 hours 10 minutes. If the pace is slower they will ask you to pick up the ball and continue the game. If you have any trouble during the practice we recommend you let the other teams go through and ask for help when required in order to not to waste your time or the other’s players time during their practice.

The course undergoes annual repair and maintenance that does not interfere with the golfers visits. The course is then kept in great condition, the greens are quick but receptive, and if you decide to take buggies they have installed the latest GPS devices. The facilities are hosted by very helpful staff and it always has a very friendly atmosphere.

Today, Los Naranjos Golf Club is a reference for the golf practitioners and many events have been hosted here for professional and amateur players: Ladies Open Marbella in 1988, which belongs to the Ladies European Tour, the PGA Spanish Championship in 1989 with José Rivero and Severiano Ballesteros, as well as the European Senior Amateur Championship, the Spanish Junior Championship or the Spanish LPGA Championship.

Costa del Sol Route, beyond the golfing coast

This southern region in Spain is known for its great golf clubs and courses. In addition to these sceneries, there are also really nice beaches where you can hang with family and friends. But this region has more to offer, and this holiday season will be the perfect time for you to discover them.

In this first stop of the route through Costa del Sol we will start from Nerja. This town is a quiet village, perfect for couples and those who want to run away from the noisy cities to have more privacy for their touristic plans. It is still one of the virgin places in this coast because the influx of the masses has not damaged this blissful surrounding. Among the activities you can do here is hiking to the top of Balcón de Europa, which is a building at the end of a big avenue that ends in a big round square with a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea. It has been said that Alfonso XII named this place after visiting it, and although there are some doubts on the truth of this fact, this fortress has been known with this name since then. If you are more nature adventurous you can also check out the Cuevas de Nerja, a stalagmites and stalactites cave and impress yourself with the great acoustics of this spot.

Then, the tour along the coast continues in Playa del Cañuelo. It is hidden near the bottom of the Maroc cliffs and it is known for being the best beach on Costa del Sol. Its sand turns out to be grayish, and the water of the sea incredibly clear, blue just like the sky. Is so transparent that you will see little fishes swimming around you, a perfect place to explore with kids who want to live nature very closely. Also a very good plan recommended for those who just want to spend a whole beachy, sandy and sunny day.

The route through Costa del Sol continues towards Málaga. Most of the people who have visited it have done it just by stepping into the airport to take a connecting flight, but they are missing a nice touristic place in the coast. Málaga is a city full of Andalucía insight, it’s small and all its main attractions are just around the corner from each other, close to the seaside. Best places to visit there are the Roman amphitheater, the palatial fortification of Alcazaba, and the Picasso Museum, one of Marbella’s tourists’ favorites. The later is a tribute to the city’s most famous resident.

Then, at the northern part of Malaga, we will find the most exciting and at the same time scariest walk in the whole world. The Caminito del Rey, was recently opened to the public and you can go through a narrow defile. This walk has an extension of four kilometers of more than 100 meters high. If you are afraid of heights we recommend that you try the view from the town of El Chorro in Álora, close to a dam over the Guadalhorce River. If you like hiking, this is the place for you. The walls are a perfect challenge for a sport you might love to overcome any physical and mental obstacles.

After experiencing this extreme walks, you can take your trip down to Mijas. A very historical town with a traditional and pretty downtown you can visit, as well as several museums if you are interested in the town history or Spanish curiosities. One striking landmark here is the Virgen de la Peña Chapel, a tiny chapel built to honor the Virgin Mary. Housed in a cave on the side of a mountain with glorious views over the Costa del Sol.It is beautifully kept and the gold pews invite quiet prayer and reflection. There is a small display of religious items, some of which are richly embroidered with gold threads. It is the perfect place to light a candle for quiet reflection at a time of day when the coach-loads of tourists have gone.

On the way back to Marbella ,Benahavis is a very beautiful town in part of the Marbella hill which has really amazing views. You must walk down the hill from the main part of the village and discover the Tower Park. This town is blessed with a natural reserve area where you can see all kinds of wildlife. The mountain stream has waterfalls and a beautiful rock pool where you can swim and see terrapins, very good trip to enjoy with your kids this season. Very close to this town you will find.

The last part of this trip takes us to Algeciras, a bigger town where the deep blue sky merges with the deep sea in the magical beach of El Rinconcillo. This beach is highly recommended for surfers and kite-surfers, so if you are one of them start thinking about visiting this beach soon. Algeciras has a small Archeological Park of the Murallas Merinies that you might find very well lightned during the nighttime. It is located in a central area of the city, next to lots of shops and tapas bars in Calle Alfonso XI. Don’t forget to visit Plaza Alta, which is the main square in Algeciras, full of bars, restaurants and shops that you can get a drink into.

We invite you to choose any of these options and visit the wonderful Costa del Sol Route. We will assist your vacation plan, including the accommodation and advice on any other travel requirements you might need before visiting this coast of Spain, such as the car rentals, among others. Every single place you visit is full of history and nature, you will be able to create your own vacation story and memories that will last forever. Come and experience it yourself, we will be always here to help you plan your next trip to Marbella.

Wanderlust Christmas: The magic as you had never experienced it before

The time of the year where all families gather together for decorating the tree and meeting Santa is here! You and your closest ones are ready to start holidays by buying gifts, singing carols, eating a lot while on vacations until Christmas Eve arrives. Here in Marbella, the Christmas season goes, from the last week of November through January 6th, with its perfect climate all year round, and great coastal location, full of great activities that you will find entertaining and fun to share with the people you are traveling with.

If you are a little one, Marbella has great places for you to enjoy this end of 2016. Can you imagine that every year Santa arrives at the Marbella Port by boat and parades around the town on the evening of the 25th December.  Santa Claus will be so busy this Christmas but you will have several places to meet him. You have the Aloha College Christmas Bazaar on December 3 -9, held in Urbanización El Ángel, Nueva Andalucía (next to Aloha Golf), where the community celebrates the magic and beauty of Christmas and you will taste a wide selection of cakes and food prepared by international participants. Everyone is invited here, kids will have face-painting activities and bouncy castles and for the older ones there will be baskets of chocolates and wine, bookstands, music, dance interludes and other incredible activities you cannot miss.

Remember that if someone in your family has not bought gifts for the ones you left at home, there are several flea markets through the week but the most important one is the Puerto Banús Street Market every Saturday from 9:00am – 2:00pm at Boulevard de La Fama, parking at Centro Plaza Mall. There you will find leather accessories and clothing, woodcrafts and artisanal soap, among other gifts.

You can finish your shopping experience of the day by hanging at the fancy restaurant of La Sala which is located at Calle de Juan Belmonte, 29660, Puerto Banús. Since 2010, La Sala has become the place to eat, drink and reconnect with friends. Their rear terrace enjoys stunning views of La Concha and is the ideal place for a leisurely coffee and the a la carte restaurant offers that unforgettable dining experience with a varied menu including Spanish and International favorites.

For the couples that are planning a really relaxing retreat we recommend a beautiful place to enjoy the 24th Christmas Dinner. The Casanis, which is located at Calle Ancha, 8, 29601 Marbella, knows for offering a great Christmas menu and a quiet environment for celebrating this time of the year. It specializes on French cuisine and is known for its fresh ingredients purchased the same day of preparation by the chef Tulio Zampieri.

For young people that wish to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Marbella we recommend to hit the floor with the Great Gatsby themed party. It will be held on Saturday, Dec 31 at 8:00 PM until Sunday January 1 at 3:00 AM. The location is secret but is expected to be at Puerto Banús, Calle Puerto Banús Casa J. This party is the most spectacular and exclusive New Year’s Event in Marbella, giving a line-up of full live Gatsby entertainment. The ticket will be around 100€ and 150€ if VIP sounds better for you; if you buy now you might be one of the lucky first 100 tickets of 60€ each.

Christmas arrived to Marbella this 2016 in style! There are wonderful things to do with your kids, your parents, your siblings or your significant other. Don’t let people tell you the Christmas story of wonderful Marbella, come and live it yourself with us!
