The New Course is the younger brother to the highly regarded Old Course and a visit to the 36 hole Atalaya Golf and Country Club gives you the opportunity to play on two excellent courses close to Marbella. The course is located near San Pedro, between Marbella and Estepona and was created in 1968, with the Old Course opening first and the New Course following it fifteen years later.

The Atalaya New Course was designed by Paul Krings and opened in 1990. It has a parkland feel, gently undulating fairways and large, fast greens. It is described by the Costa del Sol Golf Guide as “the shortest and technically easiest 18-hole golf course on the Costa del Sol”. However, they note that although it should be easy, due to the elevation, slope, narrow fairways and water hazards this can be a challenging for a player with a handicap over 20.
Other golfers say that this course actually offers more of a challenge than the Old Course due to the elevations, but agree that this is best for the average club golfer, looking for an enjoyable round, rather than the scratch player. Comments on TripAdvisor do note the short length of the course, but praise the variety, greens and staff.

Before 11.00 am the maximum handicap allowed on the course is 28 for men and 36 for ladies, after 11.00 am players with Green Card and Platzreifekarte are allowed, and beginners are welcome after 4pm.
There is a good club house with a restaurant offering decent food at reasonable prices, plus two refreshment kiosks for snacks and drinks with easy access to the fairways. They are also creating a new parking area to provide an additional 135 parking spaces, which is due to be ready at the end of 2017.
