Finca Cortesin is Cabell Robinson designed 18 hole course which opened in 2007 and has been making a name for itself over the last decade. Located in Casares, between Estepona and Sotogrande, Finca Cortesin is a difficult championship course which has hosted the Volvo World Match Play and which was rated as one of Spain’s best golf courses by Golf Digest and is ranked 5th in Spain and 25th in Europe by Top100GolfCourses.com. CostadelSolGolf.com puts it in their top 3 Costa del Sol golf courses for a “sophisticated golfing challenge” and “good mix of quality and service”.
Finca Cortesin is known to be a very demanding course. It has one of Europe’s longest layouts which follows the contours of a large valley, leading to significant slopes on the fairway and elevation changes. There are more than 100 bunkers, plus difficult first cut rough and true rough and water hazards, so this is definitely a challenge. Top100GolfCourses.com highlights the 3rd, 10th and 11th holes as particularly good, picking the par four 13th hole as their favourite, although commenting that there are so many great holes that it’s hard to pick.
This is a 5* golf experience with complimentary buggies, range balls and trollies, fruit and cold water service on the course all contributing to a wonderful round. Players highlight the excellent facilities and customer service, combined with a relaxed atmosphere which makes everyone feel welcome. However, the prices reflect the experience, with green fees costing 280€ in the high season and 245€ in the low season.

Where to stay?
Finca Cortesin is in Casares Costa, on the way up to the pretty white village of Casares, but easily accessible from the main N340 coast road. It is located between Estepona and Sotogrande and about half an hour’s drive from Marbella. We’d recommend choosing Estepona as a base if you want to play Finca Cortesin, be close to the golf mecca of Sotogrande and within easy reach of Nueva Andalucia’s golf valley.
Estepona is a lovely town which is gaining in popularity due to its charm, wide sandy beaches, long seafront promenade and great restaurants. It is busy and buzzing in the evening, with lots of places to choose from for a drink or something to eat. There are late night bars and music venues as well, head down to Estepona Port for the evening and there’s plenty to enjoy.
We have a selection of vacation rentals in Estepona which make a great base for your next golf break. You can also book accommodation and tee times online by inputting your chosen area as Estepona, how many nights and how many rounds of golf you want to play and seeing what the system recommends. You can also customise it to show live tee times and prices for the courses you really want to play – it’s a really easy and quick way to book everything you need in one place.
