Mijas:

Mijas is a diverse region located to the east of Marbella. It includes the popular seaside town of La Cala de Mijas with its large weekly market, the bustling international town of Fuengirola, lots of golf courses, great beaches and a beautiful white village. It is very popular with holiday makers because of its proximity to Malaga airport and the wide variety of activities and different places to visit in a small area. We have some great Mijas vacation rental properties on our website and can also arrange day trips to Mijas from your vacation rental in Marbella.

One of the best day trips from Marbella is to take the short drive to the pretty white village of Mijas Pueblo, in the stunning Sierra de Mijas mountain range. Although Mijas is just 30 minutes’ drive from Marbella, it feels like a completely different world, as the quaint white village nestles into the hillside and offers stunning scenery and great hikes too. You can do a guided private tour, or hire a car and explore yourself.

There is a large main square when you first get into the village where you will see the traditional donkey taxis and there’s daily flamenco shows during the summer months. There is an excellent tourist office on the main square where you can pick up leaflets about things to do in the village and nearby hiking routes – make that your first stop.

Hiking in Mijas

We recommend exploring the well sign posted walking routes just behind Mijas. There are seven different, colour-coded routes, which start from a 1 hour easy stroll to a very challenging 5 hour route. You can see the routes on the tourism website and if you don’t feel like doing it alone, you can join the guided hiking trails which leave the tourism office at 9.15 on Saturdays and Sundays. Art and Culture in Mijas

Artists have been flocking to Mijas for decades and there is a thriving artisan scene with many artists and skilled craftspeople making beautiful pieces and selling them in the village. There are lots of little galleries and shops specialising in arts and crafts for you to visit and it’s often possible to meet the artists and see them at work. We also recommend a visit to the Contemporary Art Centre where you can enjoy over 400 pieces of contemporary art from the world’s best artists, including Picasso and Dalí. Admission is 3€ and it is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 7pm.

Chocolate in Mijas

Mijas Pueblo has the world’s smallest chocolate factory which you can visit and learn how to make your own delicious chocolate too. This is an excellent family activity! They have hour-long workshops where you can learn how to make six different types of chocolate and take them away with you to enjoy. They run 7 days a week from 10.30am to 5pm and need a minimum of four people, the cost is 29.95€ per person. Alternatively, you can take their 10 minute express workshop where you can learn to mould and decorate three bars of your very own chocolate. Booking isn’t required, and you only need two people to do these tours. They run from 10.30am to 6pm and cost 11.70€ per person. Visit the Mayan Monkey website

We can organise a half day private tour for you to visit the beautiful village of Mijas, or a full day visit which shows you the best parts of Malaga, Mijas and Marbella and gives you a great overview of the amazing diversity of the Costa del Sol.
