This is one of four spectacular championship courses in the Sotogrande region of the Costa del Sol and is considered one of Robert Trent Jones’ masterpieces. This was Trent Jones’ first course in Europe, opened in 1964 and his 6,224 meter layout is still a firm favourite with golfers from around the world.
It is often voted as one of the top ten courses in Europe and is characterised by long tees, very wide fairways and fast, elevated greens. It is a course which retains the natural beauty of the land with mature trees and vegetation completing this stunning setting close to the beachfront. It is ranked 2nd in Spain and 7th in Europe by Top100GolfCourses.com they comment that every hole requires planning, care and good execution and call it a “stern test to even the best golfers”.
There are some great, but challenging holes, particularly worth note is the 4th, the 7th and the finishing six holes which are tough with well placed water hazards.
Sotogrande is a private members club which welcomes visitors and there is a lovely refined air of sophistication about the whole place. Green fees are 220€ for 18 holes during the week and 250€ at weekends.
